Fountas and Pinnell - Assessment Reminders and Important Tips

Click here - IMPORTANT TIPS FOR ASSESSING STUDENTS:
  • Reminder:  Running records are a tool to help us focus on reading behaviors. We do not want an inflated view of a reader’s ability to comprehend a text because then we will not know what needs to be taught.  F & P data is to dig deeper so we can target our instruction and grow our readers, not to be used for showing teacher evaluative growth.
Click here - DO WE STOP ASSESSING ONCE A CHILD MAKES BENCHMARK?

Fountas & Pinnell - Running Record Data Entry
Enter student data for instructional level (letter A-Z), accuracy (%) and comprehension (number score).

STEP 1:  Log into ourschooldata.org.  Request a password change if you are unable to get in or are a first time user.
STEP 2: Data is to be entered at the end of each testing period - Fall, Winter and Spring
STEP 3: SYNC STUDENT LIST before entering data to update class lists.
STEP 4: Enter Data - Click on image of written or video directions linked below
.
Tips:
  • Kindergarten teachers, <A is an allowable option for the ‘Instructional Level A-Z’ item.
  • Kindergarten teachers, NA is an allowable option for the ‘Comprehension’ item.
  • All Staff - if a student did not test in the winter (or they were not here in the fall to test), leave the information blank.

End of the Year - Passing on the Student Assessment Folder

Use the Student Assessment Folder (provided in your F & P Kit) for each student in your class. (examples of folder below)
  1. Be sure to write both first and last name on folder.
  2. Record on the front of the folder the school year, grade, classroom teacher and the instructional level for each testing period (Oct, Jan, May)  If they were not re-tested in January because they were at benchmark, just record the benchmark level they met.
  3. Please put inside the actual last running records you did for May only.
  4. Once you have your class folders completed please turn in to your building secretary by the last day of school.  They will be getting those to next year’s teacher.
  5. Need help, have questions, contact your literacy coaches.
